The Gull Lake area is absolutely spectacular in fall, with all the trees doing their colorful thing. Minnesota abounds in maples and dogwoods, and you’ll see every shade from red to gold. You can take a hike just about anywhere and admire them, though if you prefer to learn more about the trees as you do that, why not take your walk at the Northland Arboretum? There are 12 miles of trails on offer for you to explore; in the winter, they become cross-country ski trails, so you can enjoy them in any season.
Another fun thing to do is drive around the perimeter of Gull Lake on the Pine Beach Road (County Road 77). Along the way, you can also detour into the Pillsbury State Forest for even more fall foliage. Bring along your fishing gear and stop on the other side of the lake for a different spot to fish! It’s easy to make this drive into a family favorite with little stops along the way that everyone can enjoy.
Indoor Fun and Games
If the weather is just too cold for having fun outside, there’s tons to do indoors around Gull Lake. Sports enthusiasts will want to head over to The Yard Sports Complex in nearby Pequot, where you can rent batting cages and open turf areas by the half hour or hour. Have fun playing pickleball and soccer or practice your golf swing! You can also warm up there with some great coffee on-site.
Another fun family spot is Craguns Laser Tag, which features two levels, lights, and music. The kids will have a great time, and the adults will feel like kids again! They also have an arcade for extra enjoyment while you’re there.
