Things to Do in Nisswa
Head out on the lake, of course! We offer boat rentals, if you haven’t brought your own: our tritoon boat has an extra tube underneath, for added stability and comfort. Aboard, you’ll find everything you could possibly need for a great day on the water: not only fishing chairs and rod holders, but GPS/sonar, dining table, stereo, sink, and more. Zoom around the lake in style with up to 14 passengers, with your Yamaha F150 motor!
There are also lots of other great ways to head out on Gull Lake during your stay, so why not try a few of them? One fun thing to do is to enjoy exploring the lake all day at your own pace via kayak. Another great option is stand-up paddling; if you’re new to the sport, you can take a lesson, or else cruise around on your own. And of course, if you’re looking for a more heart-pounding lake adventure, you can always get jet skis and zoom around, or else rent a ski boat and waterski to your heart’s content.
When you’re ready for some fun back on land, there are so many things to do in Nisswa and nearby. Enjoy some great water slides at the Nisswa Family Fun Center, a family-fun spot with friendly service and perfect slides for all ages. They’ve got kiddie pools for the little ones, and hot tubs for the grownups, so everyone will be happy! If you’d prefer to stay dry, take the crew for a round of mini-golf at Pirate’s Cove. There’s also lots of grown-up golf in the area!
Active travelers will enjoy exploring the region’s many incredible trails. Rent bicycles, and spend the day cruising the Paul Bunyan Trail, which offers an amazing 120 miles of paved path that winds through tons of gorgeous lake scenery, as well as many small towns where you can pick up a snack. Another fun spot to explore is Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area, where abandoned former mine pits have become a series of beautiful lakes for all to enjoy. It’s a great spot for mountain biking (and fat tire biking in winter), hiking, swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, and even snorkeling and scuba diving. Who knows what you might see under all that turquoise water?
If your idea of outdoor fun is more adrenaline-filled, then you might prefer to try an action-packed trip on the Brainerd Zip Line! This 2.5-hour tour takes you through seven different zip lines, so you’ll get to view a whole new angle on the Brainerd Lakes region. For extra excitement, finish it off with the optional 50-foot freefall experience!
If you’re looking more for relaxation, you can take a class at Nisswa Yoga, or just spend the day browsing the many locally-owned shops in downtown Nisswa. Visit The Fun Sisters for eclectic clothing and accessory options, accompanied by friendly service. Stop by Loide Oils & Vinegars, a tasting bar of specialty imported flavors from around the globe. And of course, no vacation would be complete without some great grub, so stop by Big Axe Brewing and enjoy a meal and some craft brews (and people-watching) in their lovely outdoor seating area.
Finally, if you love to learn more about the history of the area you’re visiting, stop by the Crow Wing Historical Society Museum and Library in Brainerd. This great little spot is full of information about the 19th-century settlers of the area, and you can also tour the old sheriff’s quarters and adjacent jail area! Staffed by knowledgeable locals, this is one of the best places to get all your historical questions about the area answered accurately.
